BASIC APPLE TUTORIAL |
This will be a basic apple tutorial for CINEMA 4D. I will guide you through my method of creating a simple apple with a stem and two leaves and creating the textures. Let's get started! |
![]() |
First we will add a sphere to
our scene and change the segments to 12 as shown above. |
|
![]() |
Next we'll drop the sphere into
a hyper NURBS object as shown on the right above. |
|
![]() |
We will then make the sphere
editable and go into points mode. See image above. |
|
![]() |
Next we'll begin to shape our apple by selecting the center point on top and moving it down a bit. Then select a few points one by one around the top and move them upward to resemble the top of an apple. |
|
Next we'll select the rectangle selection tool and uncheck "only select visible elements" on the lower right in the attributes manager. In the "front" view, drag the rectangle selection around the bottom half of the points and scale them smaller a little bit. Then choose the top half of the points and make them just a little larger. This should give you a nice shape of an apple. :-)
|
![]() |
Now in that same front view it's time to create the stem. Choose a "B-Spline" and draw a spline like shown above.
|
![]() |
Create a circle spline with a radius of only 2 cm, and drag the circle under the sweep NURBS followed by the regular spline. This should give you a nice stem.
|
![]() |
Next add two planes and scale them down and position them as above. Make the width and height segments 6 as shown above. Then make them editable by pressing the C key on your keyboard while they are selected. These will be your apple leaves.
|
![]() |
Now it's time to create our textures. I will be creating a leaf texture using an image and an alpha image and the stem and apple will both be procedural textures with no alpha or image. We'll start with the leaft. As shown above, with the color channel checked, click on the little arrow behind the word "texture" and direct it to the leaf1jpg texture. |
![]() |
Next with the alpha channel selected, click on the little arrow and direct it to the leaf1alp.jpg texture which is your alpha image. You will see your leaf appear in the preview.
|
![]() |
Next, with the specular channel checked, you will see the settings above for the specular levels. And that's it for creating our leaf textures.
|
![]() |
After you have applied the leaf textures, this is what you will have. You may have to rotate the leaf planes and position them again after applying the textures if they show up wrong.
|
![]() |
Next we'll create a procedural texture for our stem. With the color channel checked add a medium to dark brown color at the top. Then behind Texture...click the arrow and choose "Fusion". You will also notice that the mix strength at the bottom is set at 90%. Click on "Fusion" to get to the settings for that.
|
![]() |
After you have clicked on "Fusion" you will see three channels, Blend, Mask & Base. We will click on each one to see the settings you need to enter.
|
![]() |
The blend channel is set to noise and above are the settings you need to enter. Choose the colors and then enter the values below.
|
![]() |
The Mask channel is set to noise also. So click on that and then copy the settings above. Choose your colors again and add the values below.
|
![]() |
The base channel is set to gradient. So click on the gradient label and you will add the colors above while trying to duplicate the transition of the lighter yellow to the brown.
|
![]() |
Going back to the main material window, we'll now set the bump properties having finished with the color. Set the texture to Noise and then click on Noise to access the settings.
|
![]() |
Choose the settings above for color and then set your numbers to match the ones in the boxes. Then back to the main material window.
|
![]() |
The final setting for the stem is the specular setting. Click on the word "Specular" on the left in the material widow to add the settings that you see here. And that's it for the stem procedural texture. Add your texture to the stem and you are done with it. Next, we move on to the apple.
|
![]() |
The apple color has more settings to get that wonderful apple variated texture so this will take a bit of time but it will be worth it. With the color channel checked, choose and orange/red color at the top and then choose "Filter" behind the texture mode. Click on Filter to see the settings.
|
![]() |
The Filter settings are set first to Fusion. Copy the settings as you see above and then click on Fusion to access those settings.
|
![]() |
Just like on the stem, you will see the fusion channels of Blend, Mask & Base. Click first on the blend channel Noise.
|
![]() |
There you will see the color and number settings for the noise channel. Enter them and then go back to the fusion channel for the Mask channel settings.
|
![]() |
The Mask channel is a noise also so click on noise and you will see these settings to copy. Enter them and then go back to the Base channel for those settings.
|
![]() |
The Base channel is Fusion again
and so we will click and choose Noise for the Blend channel. |
![]() |
The color Blend channel is noise here so choose that and then click on it to access and set these values. Then go back to the previous window for the color Base channel settings. |
![]() |
The Base channel is a gradient, so choose that and click on it to access and set these color settings. Then return clear back to the main texture window and Check Diffusion and set it to Noise.
|
![]() |
As you can see, the diffusion channel is set to "Noise", so choose that and click on it to see the settings.
|
![]() |
And above you will see the diffusion Noise settings and colors. Duplicate them and go back to the main texture window.
|
![]() |
The bump channel is set to Fusion.
So select that and click on it to set the properties. |
![]() |
Both the Blend and the Base channels here are set to Noise. So do that and then click on the first one to create the settings. |
![]() |
Again, duplicate the settings here for the Blend channel and then return to the previous window for the Base channel settings.
|
|
The Base channel settings are more noise so duplicate thesse setting and return to your main Mater ialwindow.
|
![]() |
The specular channel settings
can be copied to your specular channel. |
|
The specular color channel has a light yellow color and then the texture is set to Noise. So set that and click on it to access the properties so you can enter them.
|
![]() |
And here are the settings for the color specular channel in the noise settings. Set them up like this in your material and return to the main texture window.
|
![]() |
Apply your new apple texture to the apple and there you have it. A wonderful new juicy apple ripe for eating. :-)
|
![]() |
The nice thing about procedural textures is that they can be changed so easily. If you go back into your settings for the color on the apple texture and change the browns to a dull greenish yellow, you have a beautiful new green apple texture. Be sure to save the red texture first so you don't overwrite it. There you have it! Have fun with it and if you have any questions email me. Damsel |
